How "Not" To React to Workplace Stress (vid)
June 7, 2008
Workplace stress takes it's toll on millions of workers annually in terms of sick-days, lackluster productivity, and second-rate performance. That said, no matter how much your career might be stressing you out there are certainly things that you can do to help alleviate its symptoms and effects:
- Take a 10-minute time-out, in a place where you can be alone (the restroom will work in a pinch).
- Learn to "breath-deeply" — ten to twenty focused and exaggerated deep inhales and exhales, with your eyes closed and your mind cleared is proven to release tension and improve mood.
- Believe it or not, not drinking enough water (soda, coffee, etc. don't count) has been shown to contribute to stress levels.
- Get plenty of sleep — studies have shown that you actually need more sleep as you get older and the typical adult needs a solid eight hours.
Whatever you do, do not deal with stress the way the poor guy in this video did!
